Fuso chasing Isuzu in new truck and bus registrations

At the end of April 2017, Fuso is chasing Isuzu hard with 299 truck and bus registrations year to date.  Read the article posted by Robert Barry in Diesel Talk.

At the end of April 2017, market leader Isuzu Trucks is holding its own year to date with 371 new truck and bus registrations, 30 units more than the previous corresponding period total of 341, but in second place on the sales charts Fuso Trucks is chasing hard with 299 truck and bus registrations, up 152 units from 147 registrations in the previous corresponding period.

Third-placed Hino is sitting on a year to date total of 188 new truck registrations, only three fewer than the previous corresponding period, while in fourth place Volvo Trucks are sitting on 159 new truck registrations up 51 units from 108 in the previous corresponding period.

In fifth place Mercedes-Benz is also enjoying growth in 2017, year-to-date new truck registrations of 105 at April 30th are 33 units up from 72 in the previous corresponding period, while sixth-placed Fiat has taken 105 new truck registrations year to date, up from 72 in the previous corresponding period.

For the month of April 2017, Isuzu Trucks lead the market with 76 new truck registrations (98 in April 2016), followed by a resurgent Fuso with 65 new truck registrations (45 in April 2016), and in third place Hino saw 48 new truck registrations down from 73 in the previous corresponding period.

In fourth place on the April registrations, Volvo Trucks also enjoyed a resurgence with 39 new units up from 27 in the previous corresponding period, as did Mercedes-Benz Trucks, with 29 new registrations up from 17 at the same time last year.

Fiat, UD Trucks, DAF, Scania, and Kenworth all enjoyed growth in their year on year registration figures for April 2017.

Isuzu Trucks New Zealand Limited general manager Colin Muir attributes the lower amount of year on year registrations to the timing of late build slots for heavy trucks.

“As the trucks come out of build our new registration numbers should come right soon,” says Muir.

“We are still 30 new trucks ahead of where we were at in the same period last year, but I have to say that Fuso has been very competitive and is picking up business in the light duty section of the market,” says Muir.

“But the wholesale pipeline with customer names allocated to trucks is still filling up very nicely, without giving the game away it’s a very good number,” he says.

Muir also says that Isuzu Trucks is enjoying growth in both market share and volume in the medium duty and heavy duty truck segments.

“We’re finding it hard to complain to complain at the moment,” he says.
