New Fighter puts FUSO first for safety across light, medium and heavy
• FUSO leads in New Zealand by offering advanced safety technology as standard across light, medium and heavy-duty truck classes.
• New Fighter is the only medium-duty Japanese truck with Sideguard Assist and a Euro 6 certified drivetrain.
FUSO continues to lead the way among Japanese truck brands. Hot on the heels of announcing the most powerful Japanese truck ever – Shogun 510 – the new Fighter range completes an industry-first safety offering under a single brand across light, medium and heavy truck categories, and introduces the only Euro 6 certified drivetrain in a medium-duty Japanese truck.
Equipped with FUSO’s standard suite of advanced safety features – autonomous braking, lane departure warning and electronic stability control – plus a few extras, the new Euro 6 Fighter joins Canter and Shogun in providing an exceptional level of protection for drivers and other road users.
“It’s about doing our best to help everyone get home safely after every trip, which is central to our commitment that ‘We Look After Our Own’,” said Fuso New Zealand managing director Kurtis Andrews. “It has always been our goal to provide a superior level of safety for operators across every vehicle class. With the introduction of the new model Fighter, we now have a united offering that delivers on that goal.
“Fighter is proven in New Zealand over nearly 30 years and is something of an unsung hero in the FUSO family. As well as advanced safety features, this new range is the only medium-duty Japanese truck available with a Euro 6 certification. We believe it is the best of its kind.”
New Fighter is safer, cleaner and more efficient
Equipped with an Active Emergency Braking System, Lane Departure Warning, and Electronic Stability Control, the new Fighter also comes with Driver Attention Assist Monitoring and introduces Active Sideguard Assist as standard* – a first for Japanese trucks.
Active Sideguard Assist employs radar technology to monitor the truck’s left-hand blind spot and warns the driver of any cars, cyclists or pedestrians that may be unsighted.
Additional safety upgrades include a front underrun system, which provides added protection in the event of a collision by dissipating impact forces and preventing cars from running under the front of the cab.
Euro 6 models also feature daytime-running lights, fog lights, and an adjustable speed limiter.
The only medium-duty Japanese truck certified Euro 6
No other Japanese truck in this class is certified Euro 6 – the most stringent European emission standard currently available. The 250hp (177kW) 6M60T1 and 280hp (199kW) 6M60T2 engines work in harmony with highly efficient Allison automatic or FUSO manual transmissions, aided by selective catalytic reduction and diesel particulate filtration, to reduce fuel use and harmful emissions.
The 6M60T1 has also been modified to improve performance, with more torque available lower in the rev range up to a maximum of 761Nm @ 950-2270rpm. The 280hp 6M60T2 delivers 802Nm @ 1100-2400rpm.
Versatile Fighter fits the bill
There are 23 models in the Euro 6 Fighter range, with wheelbases from 4,270 to 6,530 mm in 4x2, 6x2 and 6x4 configurations, including a 4x2 factory tipper.
Fighter is proven in a wide range of medium-duty applications across general food and freight distribution, infrastructure, construction and refuse with the use of tipper, flat deck, bin, box and curtainside bodies.
New range highlights in the cab include a new multi-function steering wheel, similar to that found in Shogun, a new instrument cluster with a central digital information screen and an ergonomically improved dashboard for easier control access.
All Euro 6 models are also fitted with an immobiliser for improved security and backed by FUSO’s industry leading, 300,000km/five-year extended warranty.
The new Euro 6 range is scheduled to arrive in New Zealand late 2021.
